‘Recombinant proteins for use in clinical laboratories: an industry perspective on quality control materials’
In this seminar, Lisa will introduce diagnostic quality control (QC) materials; what they contain, how they are produced, and why apparently simple formulations present complex development challenges. Drawing on industry experience with immunoassays, she will discuss bottlenecks related to stability, immunoassay platform differences and patient-like behaviour, and why recombinant proteins remain attractive through lower cost, scalability, and reliable supply. A practical case study on neuron-specific enolase (NSE) will illustrate how SERO selected a recombinant E. coli–derived source rather than human-brain-extract for use in one of its QC materials.
