"From dark sludge to black gold". This is the take-home message of an article published by Jyllands-Posten about the Sludge2Fuel project - a project that several BCE research groups led by Leendert Vergeynst, Patrick Biller og Konstantinos Anastasakis are currently working on.

The Sludge2Fuel project will validate the world's first full-scale implementation of the direct conversion of wet sewage sludge into sustainable fuels, and the process has now reached a stage where the results will soon be tested in real life.

The hope is to contribute to the green transition, and according to Leendert Vergeynst, Assistant Professor at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering at Aarhus University, the aviation industry, for example, can benefit from the so-called sludge fuel.

- "The long-term goal is to use it in airplanes," he says and continues:

- "The oil seems to have a good composition for use in heavy modes of transportation that are difficult to electrify. We won't be able to produce enough fuel for all cars, but we may be able to produce a large part of the oil needed in airplanes, says Leendert Vergeynst to Jyllands-Posten.
