Apply for funding

Funding for travel

The supervisor and the PhD student are responsible for finding external funding for the necessary travel to conferences and stays abroad, and for equipment for the PhD student.

You can find some suggestions for where to apply by following the links below.

If the supervisor and PhD student have not been successful in getting all of the required funding and the supervisor cannot cover it from his/her project, the supervisor and PhD student can apply for financial support from the head of the PhD committee at the department. For stays abroad, only the travel expenses will be covered if the application is accepted.

To apply, the PhD student must send a short application and a budget by email to his/her supervisor who must approve the application and forward it to the Head of the PhD committee at the department.

Funding for PhD events

The department provides support for other talent development activities in the following categories:

  • Section-oriented events with presentations of on-going research by PhDs and postdocs, for example with a poster session.
  • Cross-disciplinary events exploring potential research collaboration possibilities.
  • Events incorporating either younger BSc and MSc students or former researchers with existing research groups in either an open-source setting or research collaboration setting.

In all these cases, an application can be made to the head of the PhD committee at the department for co-funding of the event. Such applications must be made by email with a description of the proposed event and its expected outcomes.
