Hello and goodbye

Stay updated on your newest colleauges in the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, and on who we say goodbye to.

Hello to

Ditte Røjkjær Rasmussen is employed as PhD student in Nina Lock's research group in the section Energy Conversion Technology from 15 February 2026.

Ditte will be working at Åbogade.

We wish her a warm welcome to BCE.

Markus Cornelis Kwakernaak is employed as Postdoc in Anders Bentien's research group, Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Batteries, in the section Process and Materials Engineering, from 15 February 2026.

Markus will be working at Åbogade.

We wish him a warm welcome to BCE.

Álvaro Lorente is employed as postdoc in Selin Kara's research group, in the Bioprocess Engineering section, from 01/02/2026. Alvaro will work in a close collaboration with Bekir Engin Eser's research team in the Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology section.

Álvaro is from Spain and previously held a postdoctoral position at the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he worked on enzyme discovery and engineering using microfluidics. He completed his PhD at Complutense University of Madrid, focusing on enzyme immobilization, kinetic modeling, and bioprocess development and simulation. At BCE Álvaro will contribute to the the DFF FTP Research Project 2, ENGREENIT, on ammonia production with nitrogenases.

We are looking forward to welcoming Álvaro in our Department.

Álvaro will be working at the Gustav Wieds Vej 10D building, in the Bioprocess Engineering, and Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology sections.

Ramadan Chalil Oglou is employed as Postdoc in Anders Bentien's research group, Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Batteries, in the section Process and Materials Engineering, from 1 December 2025.

Ramadan will be working at Åbogade.

We wish him a warm welcome to BCE.

Zhe Zhang

Project Manager

Zhe Zhang is employed as project leader in the team for partnerships and external relations from December 1, 2025.

Zhe will be working at Gustav Wieds Vej.

We wish her a warm welcome to BCE.

We are now strengthening water-technology research and education with the appointment of Professor Henrik Rasmus Andersen in the Water Technology section. This also brings together our research activities in Building 1171 at Ole Worms Allé 3, where Henrik will have an office on the 3rd floor together with the section’s researchers.

He started in early December and, during a transition period, will be at the office 1–2 days a week, as he still lives in Copenhagen. He will be working full time from 1 March 2026.

Henrik has many years of experience as an associate professor and professor in water-technology research and education at DTU Sustain and has collaborated with several researchers at DTU as well as other knowledge institutions on Zealand and in Jutland.

Based on environmental chemistry and toxicology, his research field focuses on characterizing and developing water-treatment trains for the removal of anthropogenic contaminants, pathogenic microorganisms, and by-products from oxidation processes. He works with microbiological methods, advanced chemical oxidation, and nanostructured surfaces, and has, among other things, worked on the treatment of produced water in the oil industry under the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre.

His research projects have primarily been carried out in direct collaboration with water-consuming industries, companies, and start-ups, funded through strategic innovation programmes.

At BCE and in the Water Technology section, he will continue his research profile with a focus on industry and innovation and will take part in business-development activities, innovation projects in water technology, international projects such as EIT Water, as well as urban-development plans for Pier 3 in Aarhus with a focus on water in buildings.

We look forward to excellent dynamics and close collaboration with Henrik in the section, and to benefiting from his expertise and experience within water technology in both research and education.

Mia Fiilsøe Falkeborg

Assistant Professor

Mia Fiilsøe Falkeborg is employed as Assistant Professor in the Bioprocess Technology section from December 1, 2025.

Mia holds a master's degree in process technology and a PhD in engineering from Aarhus University. Mia comes from a position as business and innovation manager at the Danish Technological Institute in Aarhus, where she has worked both as a specialist in process and ingredient development and as the person responsible for driving research and development strategies in the field of food technology. Her focus areas have included plant-based foods and food process development.

At BCE, Mia is employed in the position structure for diploma engineering teachers and will contribute to the educational area, where she will be course coordinator for Analytical Chemistry for Biotechnology in the spring of 2026. Mia will also be involved in development tasks related to food technology, among other things.

We are delighted to welcome Mia to the department, where she has an office at Gustav Wieds Vej 10 in building 3130.

Arash Emdadi is employed as Postdoc in Behzad Partoon's research group in the section Process and Materials Engineering from 15 November 2025.

Arash will be working at Foulum.

We wish him a warm welcome to BCE.
